Mosaic Courses - Current

For the past couple of years, I have been teaching mosaic courses at Tessera Glass in Reno, NV.  I'm currently teaching a beginner's course several times a month as well as a two-day accent table course once a month.  We are coming up with a new line of classes for 2010, so check the classes page of my website or visit www.tesseraglass.com, for more information.

Summer 2010

Artown Events

My friend, Naomi Ferrall and I were selected to be the artists to paint the
Windspire wind turbine that was installed on the parking garage above  West St Market in downtown Reno. This Artown project was done in conjunction with the City of Reno to bring focus to the City's commitment to renewable and clean energy.  Naomi and I also painted a 250sf mural on the parking garage that depicts our full vision of what was painted on the turbine.  It is a wind goddess blowing air up to make wind and in turn make energy.  Thanks for letting us be a part of your project, Windspire and The City of Reno!

Art in the Garden

This annual event benefiting Friends of Washoe County Library will be on July 10th from 9am to 4pm.  I will be among 20 Artists, Illustrators and Authors.  It is held in the beautiful courtyard of an Old Southwest Reno Home at 1280 Monroe Street at Sharon Way.

Purple Summer Festival

The fourth annual free Artown event held at Lavender Ridge at Fourth & Mayberry has been extended to three days this year.  I will be one of 40 local Artists & Crafters.  There will also be live music, food, wine, lavender crafts.  This is always such a fun event!  You will find me near the pond, against the house. Friday July 16th 4-8pm, Saturday July 17th 10am-8pm, & Sunday July 18th 10am-4pm.

Taylor Street Market

Pickled Tink, a local vintage-inspired boutique, is hosting an Art Faire Saturday, June 5th from 8am to 3pm. Located on Taylor between Virginia and Center, there will be up to 25 vendors at this event! Admission is free, but they are asking for a $1 per person or pet item donation to benefit the SPCA. I have created dozens of new pieces and will have them displayed and for sale at this market.

Spring 2010

We held our annual Spring Studio Tour and open house at A Cascarano Studio & Mad Dog Metals.  This year I focused on MOSAIC MURAL projects that I have completed with glass tiles from Tessera Glass. I had pictures of an underwater tropical fish scene that I did for a home in Mexico, logos that I created for the Knitting Factory (a local concert venue), and examples of the custom backsplash and shower wall inserts.  I also did a mock-up of a project that I will be starting later this spring: a 3000sf mosaic project for columns in a NYC school. Ann displayed several projects that she has been experimenting with cast glass.

Summer 2009

Art in the Garden: July 11, 2009
1280 Monroe Street - 9am to 4pm

I along with several other artists will be showcasing our arts at this annual event that benefits the Friends of Washoe County Library. It is in a beautiful garden setting and there will be about twenty artists and authors. Come see me!

Reno Philharmonic "Bling a String"

I was one of thirteen artists chosen to participate in a project for the Reno Philharmonic benefiting the Reno Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Program.  Thirteen violins have been transformed into unique works of art and will be displayed at various venues during the month of July and Arttown.  The violins will be auctioned off at the Reno Philharmonic Gala on August 1st. I mosaicked my violin in red, orange and gold glass tiles and broken mirror.

Wow, the violins are amazing! Bid on them now until the Gala August 1st at:

Wild Horse Children's Theater

I recently completed a 15'-40' mural for the backdrop of the Wild Horse Children's Theater at the Children's Museum in Carson City, NV.  This was funded in part by a grant from the Nevada Arts Council BETA grant. Thank you NAC! The set for the current production of Beauty and the Beast is covering most of the mural, but I did get some shots- See pics to the right. Please visit Wildhorse Theater Company's website at www.wildhorsetheater.com, to get more information on what they do and ticket information.

Studio Tour - April 2009

Once again, A. Cascarano Studio and Mad Dog Metals will host a studio tour that is geared toward the Reno/Lake Tahoe design community.  Ann, Dennis, Atomic Stone and I will return to display some of the fun projects that we have been working on.  This year we will also welcome Tessera Glass, Tate Wilke - mosaic artist and a local wood furniture artist.  We will have pieces that combine the talents of the featured artisans and the materials of Atomic Stone and Tessera Glass.

Studio Tour - April 2008

For the last several months I have been working with the fabulously talented Ann Cascarano.  Ann is an artist who creates mosaics using her own hand made ceramic tiles.  Her new venture for the past couple of years has been glass fusing and we have been creating the most amazing architectural glass panels for various businesses and residences in Northern Nevada and Lake Tahoe.  Check out her art at www.anncascarano.com

Last spring, we held a studio tour at her workshop and the adjoining metal shop of her partner Dennis Menesini, owner of Mad Dog Metals.  We invited all of our designer and architect friends to come by and see some our current work that was soon to be headed out for installation.  Dennis was hosting visiting blacksmith artisan Josef Habermann from the Czech Republic.  Josef comes from several generations of renowned Habermann blacksmiths and has been dazzling us with his incredible talents.   Ann and Josef created a series of forged metal art pieces that capture cast glass pods.  How inspiring this has been to be in the middle of all of this creativity!
